Over-pressurization event at Bay City Site

On Friday, 7th of March, an over-pressurization event occurred at Roehm's Bay City site. While commissioning a chiller unit, an ammonia vapor was released through a regular pressure relief device.

According to current knowledge, several employees of external contractors working at the site were exposed and received medical treatment. The release has been fully contained. There was no threat to the public at any time.

Roehm's new plant at Bay City is not in operation yet and currently in the process of being finalized. In the future, Roehm will produce methacrylates (MMA) on site, an important precursor for numerous industrial applications.

Emergency personnel responded quickly to the incident. “We would like to thank all local emergency teams for the prompt response and wish a speedy recovery to all affected individuals. The safety of our employees, the community and the environment remains our top priority”, says Alan Brewer, Site Manager at Roehm Bay City.

Local authorities have been notified and Roehm is cooperating fully with all relevant agencies to assess the situation. When more information become available, Roehm will provide udpates on this website.
