Creating Sustainable Value
Our journey over the past five years has been marked by strategic investments to establish Röhm as the leading MMA-Verbund, expanding not only our production capacities considerably but also driving technology and innovation in all regions. In the USA, China, and Germany, we opened up new innovation centers and thereby demonstrated our commitment to sustainable growth and customer-focused innovation.
A highlight of 2024 was the significant progress of our LiMA plant in Bay City, Texas. Starting in 2025, we will produce MMA with state-of-the-art technology, using a C2 raw material base. This will achieve higher product yields, more efficient resource utilization, and a substantially reduced CO₂ footprint. The particularly energy-efficient C2-based LiMA plant recycles its required water, resulting in minimal water consumption. In 2024, we established extensive wetlands at the Bay City site, creating an almost closed water cycle that preserves valuable regional resources. With our LiMA technology Röhm not only exceeds global environmental standards, but actively supports its customers’ sustainability goals.
As a leading sustainable innovator, it is more important than ever for us at Röhm to use valuable resources responsibly. Therefore, we have established a Europe-wide recycling alliance with strong partners. This innovative network stands out through its unique combination of various recycling technologies and an advanced purification method, enabling the recycling of PMMA waste regardless of type or origin. Since 2022 we have diligently expanded our sustainable product portfolio and introduced proTerra products in all our business areas, offering our customers a choice of sustainable solutions across all application areas.
Our commitment to maintaining strong regional presence has enabled us to stay closely connected with our customers and respond flexibly to their needs and market requirements. This adaptability was particularly evident in our handling of a fire incident at our Worms site in 2023, where our robust production network and dedicated employees ensured uninterrupted customer supply despite significant challenges.
The year 2024 also marked a change in our product portfolio with the spin-off of our Acrylic Products Business Unit. Through a merger with SABIC’s Functional Forms business, POLYVANTIS was created. Röhm managed the carve out successfully, to now focus even more on its core business.
Looking ahead, we recognize that sustainability remains the cornerstone of long-term success – not just for us at Röhm, but for our customers and the environment we work in. We continue to demonstrate this commitment through innovative solutions, strong partnerships, and clear objectives. Transparency is a fundamental part of our sustainability practice. Therefore we chose to enhance our reporting on the basis of the upcoming ESRS standards ahead of time and disclose our performance openly. With this report, we would like to invite you to learn more about our sustainability activities and the progress we are making to contribute to a more sustainable tomorrow.
“Sustainability and green transformation are ubiquitous requirements in modern industry. In this context, only companies that actively address the global challenges of resource scarcity and climate change will succeed. Röhm does this with innovation, courage and perseverance.”
