More design freedom: Röhm releases two new PLEXIGLAS® proTerra solid sheets
- Solid sheet with approx. 90 percent recycled material and the proven brand quality
- Market-leading coextrusion process guarantees low thickness tolerance
- PLEXIGLAS® proTerra White WM706 RC: a translucent white sheet
- PLEXIGLAS® proTerra Black 9M806 RSC: an opaque black sheet with a matte finish on one side
Resource-efficient material in the proven quality: Röhm’s Acrylic Products business unit is once again expanding the portfolio of PLEXIGLAS® proTerra solid sheets. “Since its invention 90 years ago, our PLEXIGLAS® brand acrylic has been contributing toward sustainable solutions and technological progress in countless sectors – and now it is helping our customers realize their design visions in a resource-efficient way,” says Dominic Schauber, Market Segment Manager at Röhm. The company already offers a diverse range of PLEXIGLAS® solid sheets, multi-skin sheets and corrugated sheets bearing the proTerra brand for resource-efficient materials. PLEXIGLAS® proTerra solid sheets are made of approx. 90 percent recycled acrylic and featuring the same high quality as new products and identical technical properties.
Translucent: PLEXIGLAS® proTerra White WM706 RC
Röhm’s new PLEXIGLAS® proTerra White WM706 RC meets the demand for translucent solid sheets made from recycled acrylic with a high degree of transparency. Until now, there was only the virtually opaque PLEXIGLAS® proTerra White WM805 RC with light transmission of 3 percent. By contrast, the new variant with 30 percent light transmission is just as ideal for illuminated advertising and luminaires as PLEXIGLAS® WN071, the tried and tested material for these applications. PLEXIGLAS® proTerra White WM706 RC is available now in a thickness of 3 mm. Other thicknesses can be manufactured on request.
Matte on one side: PLEXIGLAS® proTerra Black 9M806 RSC
Solid black sheets are often used in exhibition booth and store fixtures to offset products against a high-quality backdrop, e.g., as wall or counter cladding or as a material for shelves and product displays. An opaque solid sheet that is matte on one side, the new PLEXIGLAS® proTerra Black 9M806 RSC complements PLEXIGLAS® proTerra Black 9M806 RC, which features a glossy finish on both sides. With this new surface variant, Röhm is thereby giving store and exhibition booth designers even greater design freedom. The velvety surface has the familiar quality of coextruded PLEXIGLAS® Satinice products and does not show traces of wear or fingerprints. PLEXIGLAS® proTerra Black 9M806 RSC is available in a thickness of 3 mm for now. However, other thicknesses or matte surfaces on both sides can be manufactured on request.
Easy to integrate into existing concepts
Like the existing PLEXIGLAS® proTerra solid sheet variants, the two new products are manufactured using a special coextrusion process. This means that the core is made of recycled PLEXIGLAS® PMMA, while the outer layers consist of new material. This offers a number of benefits: “Our partially recycled products do not differ from the products made entirely of new material in terms of visual appearance, their light-related properties or their processing,” comments Schauber. “Thus, our customers can integrate a material into their concept that produces reduced CO2 equivalents compared to new material – without any extra planning effort.”
The two new variants complement the existing portfolio of PLEXIGLAS® proTerra semi-finished products. Alongside PLEXIGLAS® proTerra solid sheets in various colors, sizes and thicknesses, customers can also opt for PLEXIGLAS® proTerra multi-skin sheets as transparent triple-wall sheets or transparent PLEXIGLAS® proTerra corrugated sheets with a honeycomb structure on one side. Like PLEXIGLAS® semi-finished products in general, all products are lighter than comparable geometries made of glass and have a low thickness tolerance, making them just as easy to process as new material. Moreover, they are extremely resistant to weathering and aging – a key property for long-lasting plastics.
Röhm is pressing ahead with its sustainability strategy
Sustainability is an integral component of the business strategy at Röhm GmbH. The company aims to completely eliminate all greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The continual expansion of its portfolio of recycled material is an important step in this direction. Because PLEXIGLAS® is fully recyclable, it offers enormous potential in this regard.
