Customers have the choice at Röhm: Extensive offering of sustainable products available
- Worms and Wesseling sites are ISCC PLUS certified
- PLEXIGLAS®, DEGALAN®, DEGAROUTE® and MERACRYL® brands with proTerra products
- First series applications under preparation
Röhm, a leading company in methacrylate chemistry, always keeps the needs of its customers in mind when developing innovative products and applications. “They expect us to provide solutions that help them achieve their sustainability goals”, says Hans-Peter Hauck, Chief Operating Officer at Röhm. The company itself has ambitious sustainability goals and aims to reduce its corporate carbon footprint by 30 percent by 2030. The sustainable product range is also being expanded continuously. Selected products from all established brands, including PLEXIGLAS®, DEGALAN®, DEGAROUTE® and MERACRYL® are already available with a reduced carbon footprint. These products with the proTerra branding are based on a proportion of renewable or recycled raw materials.
Most recently, Röhm’s Wesseling (Germany) production site has received certification under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS scheme. This globally recognized certification certifies that Röhm and its raw material suppliers meet special requirements along the entire supply chain. Following Worms (Germany), this makes Wesseling the second Röhm production site to receive ISCC PLUS certification. This allows Röhm to ensure complete traceability of the sustainable raw materials back to the sources and thus offers customers maximum transparency. At the Wesseling site, certified products include methyl methacrylate (MMA), butyl methacrylate, methacrylic acid, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) coating raw materials as well as at the Worms site, MMA, PMMA molding compounds, butyl methacrylate, methacrylic acid, hydroxyethyl and hydroxypropyl methacrylate.
“The ISCC Plus certification is part of our global sustainability strategy”, says Lukas Dössel, Director Circular Economy at Röhm. “It allows us to offer our customers products which have an at least 25 percent lower CO₂ footprint and up to 30 percent certified sustainable raw materials. All without limiting the product quality or needing to adapt the processes of our customers, making these proTerra grades ideal drop-in solutions”.
The offering of sustainable proTerra branded products by Röhm is already being tested by numerous customers. First series applications are under preparation. “We are therefore currently ensuring that we can also supply larger volumes on short notice”, says Lukas Dössel.
