Roehm America Selects Site of New Technical Center
The most significant investment of its kind for the Region Americas Molding Compounds business, to be built in Wallingford, Connecticut.
- Enhanced resources reinforce commitment to the future of CYROLITE® & ACRYLITE® Molding Compounds customers – enabling partners to grow with Roehm
- Hiring 8 new Technical Center team associates
- Start of operation planned for second quarter, 2022
Roehm America has selected a site for their flagship Technical Center to be completed by second quarter, 2022. The new site, located in Wallingford, Connecticut, USA will be home to Roehm’s newly built “Center of Excellence” for Molding Compound Technologies and will showcase Roehm’s 80 years of expertise in PMMA innovation. The new facility will build on Roehm’s tradition of innovation by staffing labs with experienced polymer experts, providing increased support of application development within the medical, automotive and lighting, extrusion, & optics business segments.
“This news marks the next major step in Roehm’s enhanced technical capabilities in the region. The selected location gives us unique access to a talented workforce who will strengthen our PMMA application development efforts for CYROLITE® & ACRYLITE® Molding Compounds,” explains Thomas Spagnuolo, Vice President and General Manager of Molding Compounds at Roehm America.
The Technical Center will be headquarters for all global medical research and development, providing increase capability to advance new CYROLITE® solutions for the demanding medical device industry. The team will support medical OEM for infusion therapy, blood management, diagnostics and other technologies. Activities at the center will also include application development, design, and processing support for the region’s automotive applications - such as exterior body elements, signal lighting or interior, where unique designs made possible with ACRYLITE® are differentiating factors for car manufacturers. The technical center will also support other applications such as appliances, general lighting and custom-made compounds.
In addition to a safe environment for plastic formulation and processing optimization, the new site will also house a visitor’s center - showcasing Roehm’s history of innovation, an internal/external training facility, and a customer hub, built to respond quickly to customer requests such as technical data, samples, and application support. The nearly 15,000 square foot site will include space for offices, laboratories, workshops, and a warehouse – doubling the current space. “By broadening the scope of our research and development and process technologies, we create more expansive services and effectiveness for our customers – now and in the future.” states Jack Chenault, President, Region Americas.
The new facility is the largest non-production investment for the Region Americas Molding Compounds unit and comes on the heels of another recent investment announcement from Roehm to build a new MMA production plant in Bay City, Texas. The new plant will incorporate newly developed LiMA technology on a large industrial scale.
