Start of production with Röhm’s industry leading LiMA technology in Bay City

Launching the next generation of MMA technology

Röhm announced the successful start of production at its new Bay City (Texas, USA) plant. Röhm is setting new industry standards in methacrylate production with its proprietary LiMA (Leading in MethAcrylates) process—a breakthrough in technological innovation. LiMA is a very efficient methacrylate production technology, enabling high yields with low energy consumption and reduced wastewater volumes.

This innovative process will be implemented for the first time on a large industrial scale at our Bay City plant, ensuring smarter, more resource-efficient production while delivering the proven, excellent MERACRYL® MMA product quality that our customers have relied on for years.

Clean, Close, and Safe

How our customers benefit from LiMA

Cutting-Edge MMA Technology

Our Bay City plant is one of the world’s most advanced C2 production facilities. It is equipped with state-of-the-art automation for precise, reliable, and safe operation. A highly efficient catalyst ensures an overall yield of more than 90 percent.

Supply Chain Security

Our production site is close to key raw materials like ethylene and methanol which are readily available on the U.S. Gulf Coast. With an optimized logistics network, we ensure reliable deliveries, shorter transit times, and reduced supply risks.

Low Environmental Impact

The Bay City plant sets a new standard for MMA and downstream products with the best-in-class carbon footprint. It helps our customers achieve their climate goals by significantly reducing CO₂ emissions.

LiMA C2 Production Process

You Can’t Spell Climate Without LiMA

At Röhm, we view sustainability as the foundation for long-term success and a driver of innovation. Our Bay City plant embodies this commitment, integrating resource efficiency and environmental responsibility into every aspect of its design and operations.

Lower CO₂ Emissions

LiMA significantly reduces the carbon footprint of MMA production—cutting CO₂ emissions by over 26% compared to the next-best technology and by 42% compared to C4 processes.

Less Water Consumption

To protect vital water resources, Röhm has created extensive wetlands, forming a nearly closed-loop system that minimizes water usage and reduces energy.
