Röhm celebrates its fifth anniversary
Röhm started its exciting journey as a new company in 2019. Five years— compared with the hundred-year history of the “old” Röhm —the past few years are only a very short period of time. Yet, at the same time, they are an opportunity to look back and say, “Thank you.”
After the research works of the young chemist Otto Röhm at the start of the 20th century and the founding of Röhm & Haas in 1907, the invention of PLEXIGLAS® marked a breakthrough. The company expanded, broadened its product range, was sold and merged. On August 1st, 2019, the methacrylate group finally returned to its roots. The business was reconstituted as the independent company Röhm.
To this day, the name Röhm is known for its quality, reliability, and pioneering spirit. Over the past five years, Röhm has made significant investments in cooperation with owner Advent International: state-of-the-art production technology, capacity expansions, and innovations are leading Röhm into the future. Röhm is the only global manufacturer of MMA and PMMA with subsequent compounding, with a simultaneous presence in all three major regions of Asia, Europe, and North America. At the same time, the company has unveiled a new corporate headquarters here, too.

Milestone: Construction of the LiMA plant
Above all, however, Röhm has invested in innovations and technologies. A transitional highlight and milestone in the production of MMA is the LiMA plant in Bay City, TX, United States. In our new innovation centers in Shanghai, Wallingford, and Worms, Röhm’s scientists are researching innovative products, processes, and applications. Röhm’s portfolio is continuously developing to meet market demand. Another driving force here is the topic of sustainability, especially the circular economy. The sustainable “proTerra” product range includes numerous products from the brands PLEXIGLAS®/ACRYLITE®, DEGALAN®, DEGAROUTE®, and MERACRYL®.
Röhm is and remains in motion: as of May this year, Röhm has spun off from the PLEXIGLAS®/ ACRYLITE® semi-finished products division to increase its focus on the methacrylate business going forward. In turn, Röhm is concentrating on the production of high-quality chemical intermediate products for a broad range of applications in various growth sectors.
Company founder, Otto Röhm, once said, “I don’t believe anything that I haven’t tried myself”. The quote is a testament to his unrelentingly inquiring mind and courage to take things into his own hands and make something. In this tradition, we continue to write the success story of Röhm GmbH.
