Röhm forges ahead with expansion of PLEXIGLAS® capacities in Shanghai
- Systematic global expansion of capacities for PLEXIGLAS® special molding compounds
- Strengthening of the market position in China
- Customized PMMA products and closest possible proximity to the customer
With a groundbreaking ceremony at the Shanghai site (China), the construction work for the expansion of a PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds production plant has officially begun. The expanded plant is set to begin operations by the second quarter of 2023.
“The expansion of capacities in China is an important further step toward implementing our global growth strategy for PMMA molding compounds,” says COO Hans-Peter Hauck. Röhm began the systematic expansion of its special molding compounds three years ago with an additional compounding line in the US. “With the expansion of the capacities of the Shanghai plant and the simultaneous extension of the compounding system, we are significantly consolidating our strong market position in China. At the same time, we are also forging ahead with expansion in Europe with strategic investments in PMMA molding compounds.” Röhm is the world’s only supplier of MMA and PMMA with downstream compounding in the three key regions Asia, North America, and Europe.
Customized PMMA products and the closest possible proximity to the customer are the foundation for Röhm’s success on the Chinese market. Whether it’s crystal clear molding compounds, grades with modified property profiles, or special colorings: special products of the PLEXIGLAS® brand are used predominantly in the automotive and lighting industries, as well as in household applications and in extrusion.
“This expansion is our response to the consistently high demand,” says Benjamin Ling, Asia President. “We will further strengthen communications with our customers and support them closely in the development of their innovative applications.” The new innovation center building in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park with cutting-edge technical application and development labs provides the best infrastructure conditions for this.
