Röhm publishes 2025 ESG Report
- Innovation and sustainability: key elements of Röhm’s corporate strategy
The publication of Röhm’s 2025 ESG Report underscores the company’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility as a cornerstone of its long‑term strategy. Entitled “Building a Sustainable Future,” the current report outlines not only the company’s fundamental principles for sustainable business practices, but also highlights key achievements made in the past fiscal year.
As early as last year, Röhm aligned its reporting activities with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), fully incorporating the requirements set out in the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) – and, in so doing, going beyond the current minimum regulatory reporting requirements.
“Even as regulatory expectations continue to evolve and many requirements remain voluntary, we remain committed to delivering measurable progress and reporting transparently on our progress in the future,” commented COO Hans-Peter Hauck. “Sustainability and innovation are central pillars of our strategy.”
The new reporting standard is based on a double materiality assessment that Röhm updated at the end of 2025, in which reportable topics were evaluated according to their strategic and financial significance.
Röhm’s continued progress in its sustainability activities is reflected in its EcoVadis Gold rating, confirmed once more in 2025 with an improved overall score. The company also achieved strong results in the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), including in the categories “Climate Change”, “Water Security”, and “Supplier Engagement”.
Röhm’s ESG progress in 2025: key milestones at a glance
By making targeted investments and setting clearly defined strategic priorities, Röhm is demonstrating that sustainability and sound business practice are inseparable.
Decarbonization:
Röhm’s total carbon footprint in 2025 was 12% below its 2020 baseline.
A pivotal milestone in reducing specific CO₂ emissions was the commissioning of the MMA plant in Bay City, Texas (USA). Equipped with Röhm’s proprietary LiMA (“Leading in Methacrylates”) technology, the plant delivers higher yields, more efficient use of resources, and significantly lower energy and water consumption. Compared to conventional C3 and C4 production processes, the LiMA technology reduces specific CO₂ emissions by up to 42%, making a substantial contribution to the decarbonization of Röhm’s portfolio.
The Corporate Carbon Footprints (CCFs) for 2023 and 2024 were externally validated in 2025.
Circular economy:
Röhm provides interested customers with detailed carbon footprint data and corresponding life cycle assessments (LCAs) for all products, which collectively account for 95% of total revenue.
Röhm’s Europe-wide PMMA recycling alliance significantly increased recovery rates across the region in 2025. This progress underscores just how valuable collaborative industrial ecosystems can be and demonstrates how industry cooperation can be a driving force in accelerating the transition to a circular economy.
Safety:
Röhm’s occupational safety results not only met the planned target, but significantly exceeded it. The company improved its workplace safety by 157% compared to the previous reporting year.
Engagement and social responsibility:
In 2025, Röhm once again lent its support to the “Im Zeichen der Lilie” social initiative organized by SV Darmstadt 98. The program promotes educational opportunities while raising awareness among young people on key topics such as environmental protection, climate action, and sustainability. In 2025, more than 200 students from the Darmstadt area took part.
Röhm’s 2025 ESG Report is available on the company’s website (Sustainability - Röhm) and provides detailed insights into the company’s sustainability strategy, goals, and key performance indicators.
