Spectacular PLEXIGLAS® stiletto in Paris
- Design icon Christian Louboutin creates glamorous shoe art with original brand-name acrylic glass from Röhm
- Exhibition at the Palais de la Porte Dorée, Paris
- Highest demands on material and processing
An enormous stiletto made of PLEXIGLAS® is the centerpiece of an exhibition in Paris devoted to the internationally celebrated shoe designer Christian Louboutin. The creation of the sculpture was a technical masterpiece.
The exhibition “L’Exhibition[nist]” at the Palais de la Porte Dorée in Paris spectacularly stages the artistic shoe works of designer Christian Louboutin. The credo of the master, whose shoes are now exhibited as works of art in museums: “I don't want people to look at my shoes and say: ‘They look really comfortable!’ I want people to think: ‘Wow, they're beautiful!’”
Breathtakingly beautiful and spectacular is undoubtedly the biggest eye-catcher of the exhibition: a huge transparent shoe from which a magical glow emanates. The piece is enthroned in a magnificent palanquin, surrounded by burning candles. The sculpture, which stands two meters high and weighs several hundred kilograms, is made from a single block of PLEXIGLAS®.
From a technical point of view, this extraordinary figure is a highly complex milled piece that required the highest precision in processing. Programming of the machines alone took about three weeks, and the milling itself took eight weeks.
The result is a luminous giant stiletto with a unique radiance that was only made possible by the use of PLEXIGLAS®, the original brand-name acrylic from Röhm, with its typical brilliant appearance, excellent workability and unique light-guiding properties.
The “L’Exhibition[nist]” exhibition at the Palais de la Porte Dorée in Paris runs until January 3, 2021 – during which time visitors can marvel at the spectacular stiletto made of PLEXIGLAS®.
