Worms site successfully certified according to OCS
- Röhm has set itself the goal of completely avoiding pellet losses
- OCS certification is further proof of the sustainability of brand-quality PMMA molding compounds
Röhm's Worms site has been successfully certified according to the standards and guidelines of Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS). Operation Clean Sweep® OCS is a voluntary program aimed at improving awareness, promoting best practices and providing guidance and tools to support companies from the plastic value chain in the implementation of the necessary pellet loss prevention measures.
Röhm is committed to preventing the release of pellets into the environment and to achieving the goal of “zero pellet loss”. Plastics Europe, the association of European plastics producers, is one of the key players behind OCS. “We are proud to be among the first member companies to undergo the OCS certification,” says Peter Reinhard, responsible for sustainability programs at Röhm. “We take the protection of our environment seriously and want to be a role model for our customers and other stakeholders.”
Successful certification requires concrete guidelines, measures and a clear regulation of responsibilities. Röhm takes various measures at its European sites, including regular training for employees and information for transport service providers, and takes precautions to ensure that spilled granulate is collected in good time and therefore does not enter the environment. Tests are currently underway at the Worms site, in which gullies have been fitted with special filters.
“For Röhm's Molding Compounds division, the certification is a further step towards proving the sustainability of our PLEXIGLAS® brand PMMA molding compounds,” says Sven Schröbel, Head of Sustainability Management Molding Compounds. “The responsible handling of plastic granulate not only protects the environment, but also contributes to greater efficiency in production, processing and transportation.
Following the successful certification of the Worms site, the Hanau and Wesseling sites will undergo the OCS audit in spring 2025.
